Can You Freeze Gluten-Free Bagels?

Short answer: Yes — and Here’s How to Do It Right
Honestly, unless they’re fresh out of the oven, gluten-free bagels should be frozen. Freezing is the best way to keep them fresh. But like everything in gluten-free life, how you do it matters.
Why Freezing Is Actually Smart
Gluten-free baked goods tend to go stale faster than their gluten-loaded cousins. That’s just the reality of baking without wheat. No gluten means no built-in shelf-life extender. So unless you like crumbly, dry leftovers, the freezer is your best friend.
Freezing locks in texture, flavor, and moisture, so you get the same chewy, golden, glorious bagel experience whenever you’re ready for it.
Not All Bagels Freeze Well. Ours Do.
Let’s be clear: not every gluten-free bagel can handle the deep freeze.
Some turn to ice bricks. Others thaw into weird, mushy ghosts of their former selves. That’s usually because of filler ingredients, weird starches, or rushed recipes that weren’t tested for real-world use.
At Sweet Chaos Bakery, we built our Paleo, gluten-free bagels to survive (and thrive) in the freezer.
How to Freeze Gluten-Free Bagels the Right Way
Here’s the foolproof way to freeze your bagels like a pro:
Slice them first Unless you enjoy sawing through frozen bread with a butter knife, save yourself and slice before freezing.
Use airtight bags Zip-top freezer bags or reusable silicone bags work great. Skip the paper towels and sad plastic wrap.
Remove the air Press out as much air as you can to prevent freezer burn.
Label it Write the freeze date. Not because they’ll last forever, just so you know how long you’ve been hoarding bagels.
Bagels can be frozen for up to 3 months, but they’re not going to last that long.
How to Reheat Frozen Gluten-Free Bagels
This is where the magic happens.
Step 1: Let them thaw at room temp for 10–15 minutes Step 2: Toast until golden and warm Step 3: Add your topping of choice (or don’t — they’re that good)
If you’re in a rush, you can microwave them for 10 seconds. But be warned — toast them after or they’ll go from sponge to sad real fast.
TL;DR

- Ours are designed to be frozen and still taste amazing

- Your future self will thank you. Especially on a Monday morning.
Stock your freezer now with bagels that don’t fall apart or taste like cardboard.
